Where to Celebrate St. Paddy’s in Philly

12th March 2020

One of the biggest party days of the year is almost here! On St. Patrick’s Day (and the weekends before and after!), both Camden and Philly become a sea of green as partiers don their shamrocks and raise a glass (or a few) to the holiday. With nearly every bar going green for the occasion, it can be hard to find an authentic spot to celebrate St. Patty’s—but luckily your The Victor apartment is right near a longtime Irish staple.

A quick 10-minute drive across the Ben Franklin Bridge, or an equally speedy ride on PATCO, is Philly’s The Plough & Stars. The Old City locale is a sprawling restaurant and bar, known for high-quality food, a wide selection of drinks and live entertainment. The multi-level offers plenty of spots to eat and drink—grab a cozy table for a small outing or head to the bar for a group of partiers.

No matter who you come with, sampling the food is a must, as The Plough & Stars is known for its genuine Irish grub: homemade Irish breads, lamb “lollys”, fish and chips and Guinness casserole among the favorites. While the venue offers an impressive beer and wine menu, it sticks to its Irish roots with an expansive whiskey list—with more than 100 options.

You can experience all of that Irish authenticity all day long on St. Patrick’s Day, as The Plough & Stars opens its doors at 7 a.m., with a traditional Irish breakfast available until 10. Afterwards, many patrons head down the street for the annual Irish Memorial Commemoration featuring Irish cultural entertainment and speeches by elected officials. The party starts back up at noon and continues all day (and night!), with drink specials, bagpipers and other live entertainment.

So break out the green beads and get ready to celebrate St. Patty’s in Philly!
