Enjoy Interactive Art at This Design Festival in Philadelphia
5th October 2021Cherry Street Pier is a feast for the senses on any given day. With world-class food and drink offerings, lush landscaping, art created by local talent and the spectacular backdrop of the Delaware River and Benjamin Franklin Bridge, there’s always something to see and do at the pier, just 10 minutes from your The Victor apartment. And this month, you’ll have a week-and-a-half of excitement at Cherry Street Pier, thanks to an interactive arts and design festival.
The Center for Architecture and Design is hosting the 2021 DesignPhiladelphia Festival Oct. 6-17 at locations across the city, with most activities centered at the pier. The annual event was sidelined by COVID last year but is back mostly in person for 2021, highlighting thought-provoking designers from around the region who will participate in a series of public activities to shed light on the power of design to provoke community conversation.
First up on the agenda is the DesignPhiladelphia Kickoff Party Oct. 6 at Cherry Street Pier, which will also be livestreamed for at-home audiences. Expect top-tier drinks and food from area vendors, along with previews of the festival’s activities, the opportunity to meet local designers and, of course, tons of swag. Throughout the festival, visit the pier for the Best in Emerging Design Competition, which features the newest innovations from area designers and design companies—from fashionistas to architects and everything in between—all with a focus on the items that make our everyday living a little easier. Judged by a panel of experts, the winning solution will walk away with a $5,000 prize.
Other events include a spotlight on local talent with Collab, a group for design experts, at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and a series exploring the role of design in modern motherhood, which will include an exhibition at several sites across the city, public education events and more, staged in partnership with the Maternity Care Coalition.
Make time to head across the river to Cherry Street Pier to see all of the excitement abounding in the Philly design scene.
