Immerse Yourself in Education and Entertainment at Seaport

26th February 2020

Riverside living is part of the experience at your The Victor apartment! But do you know much about the river that runs right near home? If you take a quick trip over to the Philly side of the Delaware, you can find out all you never knew (and didn’t know you needed to!) at the Independence Seaport Museum.

The Penn’s Landing museum has been providing education and experience about the Philadelphia area’s waterways for 60 years, welcoming more than 110,000 visitors every year. The museum is home to a number of traveling exhibits, as well as permanent displays. This winter, catch “The British Mistake,” which explores the role of the Delaware River in the Revolutionary War. Included in the exhibit is a fragment of a Revolutionary War-era underwater defense blockade that was found in the river just a few years ago. Also walk back in time with “Patriots & Pirates,” featuring rare objects that illustrate the conflict between early Americans and pirates. The “Community Gallery Series” is put together by guest curators and features unique looks at the many uses Philly’s waterways have had in the city’s culture and communities over the years.

A visit to the museum also gets you access to the three historic ships anchored outside the venue: the Cruiser Olympia, Submarine Becuna and Schooner Diligence. Anyone with an interest in maritime history will be fascinated by this hands-on experience!

While there’s plenty to see and do at the Seaport, the museum also features a full calendar of events. In the next few weeks, catch a lecture on the changing role of women in the Navy, get an interactive intro to metal casting, take a hard hat tour of the Cruiser Olympia and even attend a beer fest featuring dozens of the area’s best breweries.

So head out from your The Victor apartment, across the bridge and straight back in time to get a firsthand look at the exciting history that abounds along the Delaware River!
